Why is there a Tour de Stapleford?
On the 7th July 2014 the village was honoured to be on the route of the Tour de France. The whole village gathered to cheer on the riders at the start ( actually stage 3 -Cambridge to Buckingham Palace) of their grueling challenge to win the event.
It was an amazing experience on a glorious sunny day, with the spectators on London Road lined up several deep on both sides. The local school was closed to allow the children to soak up the atmosphere and cheer the riders on.
And the idea was born to have an inclusive cycle event for all ages and not just elite cyclists riding carbon fibre!
